Becoming a hospice CNA — the complete role guide
The hospice CNA (or Hospice Aide, in CMS terminology) provides direct personal care — bathing, grooming, toileting, transfers, and meals — under the direction of the RN. CNAs often build the strongest relationships with patients and families and are frequently the ones who notice a change first.
A day in the life
A typical day: 6–8 visits, each 45–60 minutes. Personal care (bath, oral care, grooming, toileting), skin inspection with a mandatory report of any new pressure area, patient safety check, light homemaking for the immediate patient area, and warm human presence. The CNA reports observations to the case-managing RN.
